The Profile of an Honors Student, which represents one of three elements within the process that will be at play for determining honors level eligibility in Honors Language Arts 6 is attached.
Note: The other elements will include the results of a common writing prompt administered in fifth grade, as well a comprehension based assessment intending to glean a sense of reading level and aptitude for rigorous work with more challenging texts next year.

Attached please find the suggested summer reading list for our  students, Pre-K through Gr. 5.  Many thanks to our HVRSD librarians for once again putting together an awesome list. 
 
Remember, parents...
 
The long documented "summer slide" with respect to literacy is only real if we let it be real.  Get books in their hands; read in front of them, to them, and with them.  Ask them about their faves.  Encourage them to experiment with various genres.  Tap into a book blog, etc.  Hang out at the library on rainy days, and some sunny ones as well.
